Perhaps not surprisingly, there is a lot of truth to some of the lore and even those who are professionally dealing with hair each day at a salon do encourage women to wash hair with an eye to its overall health, and not just for cleansing. Of course, persuading busy moms and career women to take the time out to follow such instructions is difficult to accomplish, yet since many of these beauty treatments do not have to be applied every day, a workable frequency may be found.
Washing Hair After Relaxers, After Straightening, and After Permanent Hair Coloring
Those wondering how often to shampoo and just rinse will be delighted to learn that many special treatments may only need to be undergone after relaxers are used, after straightening, and after using permanent hair coloring products. In addition to the foregoing, many times these treatments simply take five extra minutes in the shower or with the head over the kitchen sink, and therefore the pursuit of beauty does not have to be as time consuming as many envision it to be.
what is the right way of washing the hair?
The first thing you should do is to comb the tangles out of the hair before you wet it so the hair would wash easily and the tangles would not worsen. And then, wet your hair thoroughly under the shower. You can use either warm or cold water if you like, but for best results, you can wet your hair with warm water to open the scale-like cuticles of the hair and wash all the oil and dirt off. And then, you can rinse your hair with cold water afterwards to close the cuticles and add to the shine of your hair.
Rinse your hair under the shower to rid it of the leave-on conditioner and styling aids you have used previously, using gentle strokes of your fingertips. Then, pour a dollop of shampoo in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together, and then apply the shampoo to your scalp. Take note that you should put the shampoo on your scalp and not at the ends of your hair, as the shampoo would dry your hair’s ends and cause it to weaken and split. Also, do not mix your hair all over your head as you shampoo because it will get all tangled up. After this, rinse the shampoo off.
More often than not, we need to shampoo our hair for a second time. The purpose of the first shampoo is to clean the oil and dirt off; the second shampoo is supposed to let the shampoo treat our hair. So, repeat the process, but let the shampoo sit on for around a couple of minutes. Rinse the hair completely after this.
To get the excess water off your hair, just squeeze the water out. Do not pull or tug at the hair because the hair is at its most delicate when it is soaked. When the excess water is out, apply a dollop of conditioner – mane event – and apply it along the hairline, the nape and the ends of the hair. Pile your hair then inside a shower cap and let the conditioner stay there for around ten minutes. And then, rinse it off completely.

This gives me so much inspiration to keep going natural
very inspirational video.
THEY DO WORK. THE ONLY PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED IS IF YOU CLAMP THEM WRONG THEN IT LEAVES A WEIRD LOOKING INDENT IN THAT SPOT. I WOULD SUGGEST PRACTICING BEFORE YOU GO FOR THE LOOK!!!
I decided to go natural after I got my last perm. Before my hair was so thick and such definition to it and then after my perm it was so flat lol. I’m transitioning now, but in the end I know it will be worth it.
Thank you but no, I only use natural products on my skin.
i know- egg is gross and so is mayo.
2 hours before you wash your hair, massage in olive/ almond oil/ shea butter- WASH IT OUT FULLY- and use a little dollop of conditioner. there's a product i use called "WELLA, high hair" it's not gel but it keeps moisture in your hair and mkes it silky, and thus shiny. and don't use gel or mousse, etc, it makes your hair dull by attracting grime.
Right, you do get a different reception from brothers. I love the look of locs. My sister has had them for year and a half now. I have about two inches myself. I just do a lot of co-washing, and use setting lotion. I am probably just going to wear a curly afro.
This was a nice video … thanks for posting…
I have very thick wavy hair when the humidity rises so does my hair I love this product you can by it at your salon its called ITS A 10 ( its a leave inproduct that does everything) Little blue bottle good stuff kinda pricey 4 fl oz/ cost around $17.00 Its worth every penny I should know been around long enough to have tried everything Good luck
you can try magazine websites like elle or something
I'd say that it looks like she has quite long hair, and has put it up in a really high ponytail, right up on the crown and let the hair fall all over.
Then pulling forward a couple of ringlets at the front of your hair.
Say that! I’ve been natural now for 2 years. I’ve gotten more compliments on this hairstyle, than any other. I’m never goin back:-)
go to seventeen.com (if your not a teenager, you might not like the ideas)
or you can read In Style magazine too
Put a teeny dab of product on your fingers and rub it together. Rub it on the ends of your hair, and when you're done, brush it through before the stuff dries. Also, a while after you get your hair cut, this will help camoflauge split ends. Hope this helps!
Very true LJ1, it is an amazing transformation. I think when we are wearing relaxed styles, we tend to look similar and typical. But when you go natural, it just brings out the true you and it’s beautiful. You can’t help but get compliments because it’s unique.
I’m with you, I’m never goin back! Lol.
Cool video, NaturalNana. I a natural teenager and NEVER permed, relaxed or straighten my hair and it’s waist-length when stretch. Most women with relaxers don’t get it’s unhealthy for the body, skin, hair and even your blood. Hair grows longer in it’s most natural state.
Great vid. I recently made the transition from relaxed to natural hair. It’s a shame that it took me this long to realize how beautiful and manageble my natural hair is.
I like the first picture the best. It looks more mature and sophisticated than the other one.
You said that. At one point, everyone’s hair or weave was long. Then all I saw were the spikes.I wore the spikes for 2-3 years. Now my hair is fingernail length or shorter. I’m from the south. So brothas, younger ones especially would be like “psst” which I hate or “A shawty ” or blow their horn. Now it’s,” excuse me sista how you doin?” I want to try locs next. I just don’t have the time for the transition.
In the hair section of your local store get either the cheapest perm they have & instead of rolling it comb it straight or get a hair straightening perm & follow the directions. Make sure to drape some plastic over your upper body, so the solution doesn't harm your skin, a huge garbage bag will do just pull it around you & pin it under your chin with a clothespin, to hold it shut. But if you have naturally curly hair once it grows out a little it will get wavy again.
